Who is AL?
I was overwhelmed by the love of God in the most unlikely of places—the red light district in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
It was a whirlwind of a few weeks, and God led me and my World Race teammates to pursue a young girl working as a prostitute in the bars. The more we loved on her, the more overwhelmed I became by God’s love for us all.
It was a month of adventure, passion, heartbreak, jubilation, hope, and beauty. It was a month of Abundant Life.
My life doesn’t look like that anymore.
I’ve traded my backpack of essentials for a 3-bedroom house and a picket fence.
I’ve traded a team of missionary sisters for my husband and rescue dog.
I’ve traded the streets of Chiang Mai for a quiet neighborhood in the suburbs.
I’ve traded the work of pursuing a young prostitute for a budding freelancing career.
I’m no longer being stretched daily by language barriers or Buddhist temples or the unapologetic presence of the sex trafficking industry.
My life is comfortable. I am living on Main Street, USA.
Here’s the thing, though: I believe I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. I’m not running from a calling as an overseas missionary or anything. I believe God has placed me in this marriage, house, job, and city for a beautiful and powerful purpose.
And I also believe that Jesus came to bring Abundant Life—no matter where we live or in what season of life we find ourselves.
“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” -Jesus, in John 10:10
I first found Abundant Life (AL) on the streets of Thailand, but I’m not in Thailand anymore. Fortunately, no town is so small, no job is so mundane, and no life season is so insignificant that Jesus can’t introduce you to AL when you ask Him to do so.
This blog is the story of how I’m pursuing Jesus and discovering AL right here on Main Street, USA.
I hope you’ll join me, no matter where you are.
